CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!

I'm gonna come out and say...
I'm PROUD to be and AMERICAN where at least I KNOW I'm FREE
So lets raise a salute to this week's new release Captain America...

But First a word from Colin Patrick Eden. "I like the film except for one moment in which they(the Howling Commandos) crash through the window(of Hydra HQ) and one of them(James Falsworth) uses a shotgun to shot a guy(Hydra soldier) and it launches him across the room. Beyond that it was a good film" also "I don't see Captain America as up to the level as the Hulk or Iron Man" Yeah thanks for that Colin. But he brings up a point just who does this kid from Brooklyn think he is being leader of earth's mightiest heroes.

Surprising to some the story of the stars and stripes soldier is not as well known but here is the rundown. In the WW2, Timely Comics' writers Joe Simon and Jack "the King" Kirby created first Superhero to go war, Captain America, a full year before US involvement.. The titular Captain, aka Steve Rogers, was skrawny kid from Brooklyn who was deemed unfit for military service. After being selected as part of a program to create superhuman soldiers Steve is empowered with strength, speed and agility above and beyond a normal man. After a sabotage attempt by Nazi spies leaves Rogers as the only super-soldier he goes into war torn Europe with his team the Howling Commandos and his trusty Vibraninium Shield to fight the good fight.

In the 1960's Timely Comics had fallen to the wayside for the new comic company MARVEL Comics, with Jack Kirby and Stan "the man" Lee. Together they being back the Captain after years of no use to be part of a team book The Avengers (issue 4 to be exact) Ever since Captain America has been one of the Big three of the Avengers along with the Invincible Iron Man and The Mighty Thor.

But now lets talk about the movie. The movie is directed by Joe Johnston who has directed some good films Honey I shrunk the Kids, The Rocketeer and some bad movies The Wolfman and JURASSIC PARK III. But if you were a fan like me of the Rocketeer you knew that he was the man for a Captain America movie. He captures the idea of old adventure serials and the golden age of comics in both tone and visual style bringing in a kind of Ray Gun future like environment that fits the story perfect. Couple with a magnificent score that may not be entirely noticeable but really helps sell the whole experience.

But the real stars of the show are, well our stars. Chris Evans(from the Fantastic Four Movies) is perfect as Steve Rogers. Steve is goody two shoes but not annoying, naive but not stupid, heroic but not a glory hound, to some up he's just a good guy and Evans plays the part pitch perfect. You are brought in with no feeling that he's an actor playing a character you feel and connect with Steve on level that's hard these days with recognizable stars playing super heroes, so major props to Evans. He and the writing of the character is completely straight on. Steve is a genuinely good guy even before he get the serum and is the reason why. With other Marvel heroes and those sense the hero has flaws going and must still overcome them as their heroic persona, but Captain America is just that Captain America. Even is Steve lost his powers he'd still keep fighting on just as if not harder.
So to answer Colin and those like him...(Peter) Captain America is the heart of the Avengers, the guy who would stand in front of Galactus and not blink if it meant saving innocent lives. He has no issues or problems associated with being a man or a superman because there is no difference Steve Rogers and Cap are the same. To Quote Doctor Erskine "-but most of all stay who you are...a good man."
Speaking of Erskine, he and the rest of the supporting cast were just as phenomenal as Evans. Sebastian Stan created a bad-ass version of Bucky Barnes that you felt for and was interested in(don't worry he'll be back), Hayley Atwell proves herself as MI6 agent Peggy Carter giving her a lot spunk and strength yet keeping her a dignified Lady of the era. Tommy Lee Jones as the hard nosed Colonel Chester Phillips was a great comedic foil and had some pretty awesome moments throughout the film. Stanly Tucci gives us a great performance as the good doctor Erksine who proves to be a great father figure for Rogers and gives the audience great insight to the meaning behind his choice of Rogers for the program. Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark was fun and energetic, but was used in sort bursts as not to let such a dynamic character(he is a Stark after all) steal the show. And Toby Jones is delightfully slimy as Dr. Armin Zola right hand man in Hydra.
But over all the best character of the film is its antagonist the leader of Hydra, the Red Skull, Hugo Weaving. He is a villain with such great charisma and power that he is easily one of the highlights of the film. He fun and menacing at the same time coming off as well a comic book villain. And the films direction pulls off what could easily be scenes lift from the panels of a comic. With the grandiose gesturing and hammy acting not coming off as cheesy but perfectly in place with the film and acting as the Foil and antithesis of the good Captain.

The pacing of the film is perfect spending the necessary time with Steve Rogers and showing us who is out of the suit and then when he does get the impact it has on him as person. The action scenes last just enough and were cool, inventive and slick. The movies timeline spans all of WW2 and use of time jumps is not jarring but instead shows just how awesome the captain is in easily one of the best montages I have ever scene. Some would say it would be more interesting to see the raids in the montage but just showing the highlights gives Cap a greater heroic feel. The subtle nods to the other Marvel Movies Universe are not distracting and instead are helpful to this films story. What is the Cosmic Cube, watch Thor. Who is this super scientist Stark, what Iron Man. And even though seeing those films ahead would be helpful you still get the jist from this film and could be a very good gateway film. And even with the science fiction, cosmic fantasy superhero mumbo jumbo it doesn't take away from the meat of this movie, the Characters and story. And those truly the strongest elements of the film.

Overall Captain America does what it sets out to do. It introduces us to Steve Rogers and gives us a cool and fun adventure that is for the whole family.

But for the first time ever I think I can say the best part of the movie, was not actually part of the movie but a trailer after the credits. As with all Marvel movies there is a post credit scene but this time its a trailer...THE AVENGERS TRAILER...yeah its just a teaser trailer but its an AVENGERS TEASER TRAILER...I'm not lying stay after the credits where its says Captain America will return in the Avengers and then you will see THE AVENGERS TEASER TRAILER...ITS GOT EVERYONE IN THE SAME ROOM AND THE COSTUMES ON THE BRIDGE OF THE HELICARRIER>>>AVENGERS TRAILER

I give Captain America a 5 out of 5 and astoundingly well made superhero film that I believe can stand the test of time...AVENGERS TEASER TRAILER!!!!!
